IRA Storage Services

The Texas Bullion Depository is available for IRA storage.

What is a Precious Metal IRA?

A Precious Metal Individual Retirement Account (IRA) allows you to invest in IRS-approved physical precious metals, combining the tax benefits of an IRA with the stability of tangible assets.

The Texas Bullion Depository is Available to Store IRA Assets Through Its Operator, Lone Star Tangible Assets LP

The Internal Revenue Service requires IRA investments in precious metals to be stored in the possession of a bank or an IRS-approved nonbank trustee.

Lone Star Tangible Assets LP, the depository contractor selected to operate the Texas Bullion Depository, received IRS approval as a nonbank trustee in 2023, giving investors the option of storing their retirement assets in the Texas Bullion Depository. Storage in the Texas Bullion Depository offers retirees important advantages over many banks and private depositories:

  • No Cross-Selling or Privacy Invasion: Unlike many banks, we focus solely on secure storage, not upselling financial products or sharing your data.
  • Reduced Business Risk: As a state-run entity, we eliminate the financial and operational risks associated with for-profit private depositories.
  • State Oversight and Transparency: As a state agency, we operate under the Texas Comptroller’s oversight with regular audits by a representative from the Comptroller’s office.
  • Unparalleled Security: Our Class 3 vault — the highest security rating — features bullet-resistant doors, biometric access, 24/7 surveillance, and on-site security personnel, including commissioned police officers and ex-military with SWAT experience.
  • Segregated Storage: Your precious metals are stored separately, never commingled, ensuring you receive the exact metals you deposit upon withdrawal.
  • Full Insurance: All assets are insured at full replacement value through Lloyd’s of London, covering theft, fire, flood, and natural disasters, with daily market value updates.
  • Tax Advantages: Most precious metals purchases in Texas are sales tax-exempt, and storing with us ensures no other state can claim tax nexus.

Getting Started

Equity Trust Company, a leading provider of custodial services for self-directed IRAs, is the first custodian to work with the Texas Bullion Depository since it’s operator, LSTA, obtained IRS Nonbank Trustee status from the Department of Treasury.

Consumers wanting to store IRA investments in the Depository should work with their gold dealer and Equity Trust Company to coordinate delivery and storage.

A Word About Fees

Storage fees for IRA assets are typically negotiated between the custodian, the gold dealer and the depository contractor. The fees for standard storage shown on this website may not apply. Check with your gold dealer for precise rates and fees for storage at the depository.
